Freighter Fire: Fremantle Highway Towed to Netherlands
Burnt-Out Vessel Arrives in Eemshaven
Eemshaven, Netherlands - August 25, 2023
The Panamanian-registered freighter Fremantle Highway, which burned for almost a week in the North Sea, has arrived at the Dutch port of Eemshaven.
The vessel, carrying approximately 3,700 cars, was towed to the port by Dutch tugboats.
The fire broke out on August 16, 2023, while the Fremantle Highway was en route from Germany to Canada. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No crew members were injured in the fire, but two firefighters died while attempting to extinguish the blaze.
The Fremantle Highway is expected to remain in Eemshaven for several weeks while repairs are made.
