Derozan Inks Three Year 85 Million Contract With Chicago

Bulls Acquire DeMar DeRozan in Sign-and-Trade Deal

DeRozan Inks Three-Year, $85 Million Contract with Chicago

Spurs Receive Thaddeus Young, Alfonzo McKinnie, and First-Round Draft Pick

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Chicago Bulls have made a significant move to bolster their roster, acquiring All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan from the San Antonio Spurs in a sign-and-trade agreement.

The Bulls agreed to a three-year, $85 million contract with DeRozan, a person familiar with the deal told ESPN. As part of the sign-and-trade, the Spurs acquired forward Thaddeus Young, guard Alfonzo McKinnie, and a first-round draft pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

DeRozan, 32, spent the last three seasons with the Spurs after seven years with the Toronto Raptors. He averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game last season, earning his fifth All-Star selection.

The Bulls are hoping that DeRozan can provide a much-needed scoring boost to a team that ranked 23rd in the NBA in points per game last season. He is also a skilled playmaker who can create for others.

The signing of DeRozan is a clear indication that the Bulls are serious about competing for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. He joins a young core that includes Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, and Lonzo Ball.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are entering a rebuilding phase after trading All-Star guard Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks earlier this month. Young is a veteran forward who can provide leadership and toughness, while McKinnie is a young wing with potential.
