Derek Clancey Leaves Vancouver Canucks for Toronto Maple Leafs

Ex-Canucks AGM Departs for Similar Role with Leafs

Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford's First Hire Departs

**Vancouver, BC** - (Jul 19 2023 1238 PM EDT) The first person hired by Jim Rutherford when he took over as President of Hockey Operations for the Vancouver Canucks is leaving the NHL. Assistant General Manager Derek Clancey has left the Canucks to take on a similar role with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 54-year-old's official title in Toronto will be Assistant General Manager, according to Sportsnet. Clancey was hired by the Canucks in December 2021, just a few weeks after Rutherford took over as president of hockey operations. He was responsible for overseeing the team's player personnel decisions, including scouting, drafting, and player development.

Clancey's departure is a significant loss for the Canucks, who are in the midst of a rebuild. He was considered to be one of the team's most important executives, and his departure will likely create a void in the organization.

The Canucks have not yet announced who will replace Clancey, but they are expected to begin a search for a new assistant general manager immediately.
